The III VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK took place at European Cultural Centre | Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Michiel in Venice, December 10-17, 2016 under the focus Fragile Body – Material Body. It concluded the trilogy project following the first two editions Hybrid Body – Poetic Body and Ritual Body – Political Body that took place in December 2012 (Palazzo Bembo), and in December 2014 (Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Michiel).

The live art exhibition project dedicated to contemporary performance art showcased in its third edition works of over 80 international performance artists from around the globe, some of which presented in cooperation with prestigious cultural institutions and foundations. Pioneers of this art discipline exhibited and performed alongside established and emerging artists, reflecting influences and current tendencies in the field.

The project consists of an exhibition of performance installations, photographic and video documentation as well as vibrant program of live performances, talks, screenings and meetings with the participating artists,
researchers and curators.

For this third edition with the focus Fragile Body – Material Body, the works present physical, mental and spiritual bodies as primary material of artistic expression, aiming to investigate a wide range of concepts pertinent to the art forms of performance art, Live art and Body Art, such as: authenticity, living entities and their relations towards one another; fragility and vulnerability of the individual and of the social relationships; mental and spiritual states rendered through liminal physical and corporeal manifestation; as well as encouraging questions around the post-organic transformations and mutations to which we subject the human body.

The presence of human beings in this world is always more than a temporary condition: the communication that can be triggered between artists and the audience is an essential element. The topics addressed during the week will relate to the need to look at social relations and the lives of individuals with greater care.

Due to the specificity of this edition's theme Fragile Body – Material Body, the live performances and works on display also seek to provide reflection and further considerations on how to find meaningful mechanisms to foster positive change through contemporary culture and art in a vital way.
The ART WEEK BLOG includes with reflections, features and interviews by our residence writers.

ABOUT BIOME ARTS
Biome Arts is a collective of artists, designers, engineers, biologists, and activists producing work that anticipates the next global paradigm: ecologically sustainable, open source, commons-based culture.
We create large scale, eco-digital installations that enable other artists and the public to reimagine their
relationship with nature and technology. www.biomearts.net

ABOUT ECO_HACK 2016
Eco_Hack 2016 is a large-scale art installation and event series that is a communal incubator for radical practices of art and activism based on open-source technologies, environmental awareness, and semi-autonomous commons. Eco_Hack 2016 is a multi-faceted project consisting of a structure, art installation, digital data collection and an event series.
This event will take place in the Greenhouse Theater, a multi-purpose art installation and structure built on board Swale by Biome Arts. For more information about the project including a calendar of events, please visit biomearts.net/ecohack2016

ABOUT SWALE
Swale, by artist Mary Mattingly, is a floating garden of edible and medicinal plants that asks the question, what if healthy, fresh food could be a free public service and not just an expensive commodity? Built on a 130-foot by 40-foot barge Swale contains an edible forest garden using a sustainable form of agriculture called permaculture.
Swale imagines an alternate future with water and fresh food as commons. www.swaleny.org

Homosexualität_en - Last days

13.05 - 04.09.2016

Summer School

15-20 August 2016
Research Center for Cultures, Politics and Identities (IPAK.Center)
Belgrade, Serbia

The Summer School for Sexualities, Cultures, and Politics is permanent project, originally initiated by the Department for Gender Studies at the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities “Euro-Balkan”, Skopje, Macedonia and the Faculty of Media and Communications - Singidunum, Belgrade, Serbia. In 2014, the School has moved to and was taken up organizationally by IPAK Center.

The general aim of the School is to gather young post-graduate students, scholars and teaching staff from both Eastern and Western Europe and promote a shared platform for research and trans-disciplinary theoretical reflection on the complex modes of interweaving sexuality, culture and politics, and consequently of exchanging and questioning geopolitically determined discourses in the research of sexualities, gender studies, and queer theory. Our idea is to provide students, scholars and teachers with the opportunity to question, decenter and democratize these areas by way of deferring the notion of theoretical and geopolitical privilege which is often implied by these research areas, and thus to introduce new models of rethinking context-specific phenomena related to sexualities and, vice versa,
to enrich theoretical paradigms with context specific phenomena and research.

In this way, the School’s long-term goal is to (1) strategically stimulate the particularization and application of key ideas and theories in sexuality research locally, and to (2) universalize and popularize crucial and underprivileged positions and ideas on the European level, regardless of the East/West divide which is still central to the development of
queer theory and sexuality research.

Our endeavor is not to relativize the embeddedness and situatedness of knowledges about sexualities, but to recognize and disrupt the existing invisible borders that obstruct the free dissemination of ideas as they are being determined by various hegemonic forces – political, educational, economic - in both Eastern and Western contexts of doing academic and
artistic work related with our desires, bodies, and sexualities.

Roberta Orlando will present the Equality project at the Summer School for Sexualities, Cultures, and Politics.
